David Blackwell Hall, University of California - Berkeley

Berkeley, CA

Business Type

New student housing building

Size

183,000 square feet

The new David Blackwell Residential Hall expansion assumed the space of the existing Stiles Hall building on the University of California, Berkeley campus. Blackwell is a mixed-use, development with retail and community space on the first floor. The second floor design is unique in that it includes two staff apartments, with the rest of the floors for freshmen housing. This building acts as a community living room, housing a campus student-services center, and providing an open forum for social causes, democracy, and diversity on campus.
