PAE Living Building breaks ground

A first look at the PAE Living Building.

Set to be the first, fully certified Living Building Challenge project in Portland, Ore., and designed to be the largest commercial, urban Living Building in the world, the proposed 58,000 square foot, five-story structure is now under construction in Portland’s Old Town Historic District neighborhood at SW 1st Avenue and SW Pine Street.

PAE’s Living Building puts Portland’s bold climate goals into real-life action and we hope it inspires many more net-zero energy buildings in our city. PAE has been an innovator and leader in sustainability for a long time and Portland is lucky to benefit from this local talent.

The project is led by PAE Engineers and ZGF Architects, who have partnered on numerous high-performing and net zero projects, including the award-winning Rocky Mountain Institute Innovation Center. Other project partners include Gerding Edlen Development, Walsh Construction, Apex Real Estate Partners, and Downtown Development Group.
