Services
The UW Center for Behavioral Health and Learning sets a new benchmark for sustainable behavioral health care, combining patient-centered, majority all-electric design with high-performance systems to create a safe, welcoming environment that supports healing and recovery.
The six-story new construction facility provides 150 patient rooms for individuals with psychiatric diagnoses and substance use disorders, designed to promote comfort, safety, and recovery. The building also serves as a training hub for the next generation of behavioral health providers.
Special Features
- The design aims to create a comfortable setting that promotes patient well-being while focusing on a welcoming and safe environment. This includes daylighting, access to fresh air, and energy-efficient systems.
- The project achieved a 32% energy reduction, with a majority all-electric design.
- The electrical plant includes a new service from the power utility and multiple paralleled standby generators.
- Uniquely, this project is the first University of Washington building to use LEED for Healthcare, a more rigorous certification that better suits the medical community and patient well-being. The project achieved LEED Gold under this designation.
